On April 8, 2024, there will be a total solar eclipse in Penfield, NY. This happens when the Moon comes between the Sun and Earth, blocking the Sun completely for a short period. The eclipse will start at 2:07 pm and last for 73 minutes. Starting at 3:20 pm, totality will occur for 3 minutes and 38 seconds, and the duration will vary depending on your location. After totality, the Moon will move away, and the eclipse will end at 4:33 pm for viewers in Rochester.

A total eclipse is a rare and breathtaking natural event that provides unforgettable experiences. Before and after totality, the surroundings are transformed by an eerie dim light and peculiarly sharp shadows. During totality, the sky becomes dark, and bright stars and planets appear. The Sun's outer atmosphere, the corona, shines around the black silhouette of the Moon. Changes in temperature, winds, and animal behavior may also occur during this time. All these unique experiences make a total solar eclipse a once-in-a-lifetime must-see event.

Join the Penfield Community Solar Eclipse celebration and viewing party on April 8 at Harris Whalen Park from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature food vendors and entertainment for the community to enjoy while observing this unique event.
