Planning

The Planning Department provides technical support and recommendations to the Penfield Town Board, Planning Board, Conservation Board, and other town departments involved in projects. Planning works closely with the departments of Engineering, Business Development, and Building and Zoning.

The Planning Department is staffed by a department head, town planner, junior planner, and planning clerk.

Applications and public feedback

It is the responsibility of the Planning Department to receive applications from property owners and developers and facilitate projects through the necessary review process. The department also supports resident-based committees, such as the town-wide Comprehensive Plan Update which includes public participation and produces an official document that outlines the goals for future planning efforts in the town.

The Planning Department accepts and collects public comments on any and all applications that come before the Planning Board (or other board of jurisdiction) until a final decision is made. Once received, comments are forwarded to the reviewing board. All public comments are placed in the project file and become part of the public record.
