Dayton’s Corners School was built in 1857 to replace an earlier frame structure to serve the students of District #9. The name comes from the Dayton family that had an orchard, an apple dry house, and a general store in that area. Learn more

CHILI JUDGING GUIDELINES
There will be two separate categories for judging: “People’s Choice” and the “Judged” categories.
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in both categories. $100 cash prize for 1st place “Judged.”
Chili Contest Rules
Chili may be made with beans and/or meatless. Chili entries must display a list of main ingredients at the tasting table. Chili must be served from food-grade equipment. Transported chili must be at least 41 degrees or colder or 140 degrees or warmer. Served chili must maintain a minimum of 140 degrees. All entries must provide a minimum of four gallons of chili for the “People’s Choice” judging. Judged chili will be collected and submitted to judges at 12:45 pm.
- 6’ table with a plastic table covering for each chili entry
- Tent area with electric
- 2 oz. portion cups for “People’s Choice” judging
- Spoons and napkins
- Judging forms
- Wiping cloth and sanitized solution (for keeping the table clean)
- Gift Bag for each chili entry
Provided by the Chili Contestants: -
A minimum of four gallons of finished chili for the “People’s Choice” judging.
The first Tuesday of each month the Penfield Big Band will play two hours of your favorite big band sounds for dancing and listening.

Since its inception in 1996, the Penfield Pops Community Band has been a harmonious blend of dedicated volunteer musicians coming together to create beautiful music. Our ensemble is a testament to the power of music, showcasing the diverse talents of adults who share a passion for playing. Whether you're an experienced musician or just dusting off your instrument, you'll find a welcoming community within our band.
Rehearsals and Performances
We invite you to join us every Monday evening from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM as we gather in the inspiring atmosphere of the Band Room at Bay Trail Middle School on Scribner Road. Our rehearsal schedule runs from September through July, offering a year-round opportunity to indulge in the joy of making music together. We're not just a band; we're a family of musicians who create memorable moments through our performances.

Meet Our Conductor
Starting in September 2023, the Penfield Pops Community Band is delighted to welcome our new conductor, Allison Chipman. A proud Rochester native, Allison brings her extensive musical expertise to our ensemble. She currently teaches at Churchville-Chili Senior High School, where she directs the award-winning Churchville-Chili Wind Ensemble. Allison holds a Master's degree in Music Education from Syracuse University and another in Wind Conducting from the University of Southern Maine. She has over ten years of experience teaching. Her passion for music education is palpable, and she's excited to guide and nurture our band's growth.

This moving ceremony features a variety of tributes to veterans, including a guest speaker, essays by middle school students, and reflective music.
A highlight of the ceremony is Penfield’s traditional Presentation of Roses. During this time, community members honor and remember fallen military personnel with a rose placed on the Veterans Memorial monument stone.

Guest speaker Minh-Tuan (Richard) H. Nguyen, a Rochester native and distinguished graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. Nguyen served as the International European & African Operations Manager at Commander, Task Force Six Nine (CTF-69) in Naples, Italy, coordinating all submarine and special operations for NATO and allied partners in the European and African theaters from 2020-2022. He is currently serving as the Director of Scholarships and Officer Programs for Western and Central New York.
2023 Memorial Day Essay Contest Supported by American Legion Braman Post 1229
All students, grades 6-8, in all Penfield schools, or who are Penfield residents, are invited to submit essays to compete in the Town of Penfield annual Memorial Day Essay Contest. The 2023 topic is "My Pledge to Our Veterans"

The contest entry deadline is Friday, May 5, 2023.
ESSAY TOPIC: My Pledge to Our Veterans
Essays should be 500 words or less, typed in 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, and no more than two (2) pages in length. Please do not put names directly on the entry. Please submit the entry form, attached to the essay, for identification.
Essays are judged by a panel and each entry is ranked for excellence by each judge. All entries are marked only with a number for identification before being sent to the judges, to assure fairness.
The top three entries will receive cash awards:
1st place: $175
2nd place: $125
3rd place: $100
Winners must be able to be present at the Town of Penfield’s Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29 to be eligible to win.

The Town of Penfield and community partners Penfield Rotary and Penfield-Perinton Kiwanis will host the 31st Annual Penfield Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Shadow Lake Golf Club.
The day of fun begins with lunch at 10:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. Dinner will occur at the conclusion of the tournament at approximately 5 p.m.
Tournament registration is ongoing with sponsorship opportunities available as well. If you are not interested in golfing, you can still take part in the day by purchasing a dinner-only event ticket.
The 2023 Honorary Chairman: Bob Calabrese, Penfield-Perinton Kiwanis Member, Golf Tournament Director (Retired)
Proceeds from the event will be used to assist community organizations such as Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong, Mary Cariola, Penfield High School's Don Mack Scholarship Fund, Penfield Shepherd Home, Bethany House, Villa of Hope, Boy Scouts of America, Penfield Little League, and various local food pantries.

Parking Restrictions
To guarantee safe passage for emergency vehicles during the Town's Independence Day Celebration, parking restrictions will be enforced. "No Parking" signs will be posted on Friday, July 1, and removed after the event. The Monroe County Sheriff's Department will be monitoring compliance. Tickets will be issued and cars will be towed at the owner's expense.

Handicap Parking: Please note that vehicles parked in the Harris Hill Elementary School Parking Lot must remain there until the crowd disperses after the fireworks show, which is usually around 11:30 PM.

There will be parking by permit only in the park. Parking is available in various plazas surrounding the park. Spectators should plan to arrive around 9:30 PM if they plan to enter the park for the show. The park will be cleared immediately following the conclusion of the fireworks.
To avoid congestion, spectators are encouraged to view the fireworks show from a location outside of Harris Whalen Park.

Join us for a night of sledding, a hike under the full moon with the Penfield Trails Committee, delicious food from local food trucks, music, and games. It's the perfect opportunity to enjoy the winter weather and spend quality time with your loved ones.
