The Beauty and History of Ukrainian Pysanka Egg
Irene Glassman
166414-R Fri Apr 29 11:30AM Free
A pysanka (Ukrainian: писанка, plural: pysanky) is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, "to write" or "to inscribe," as the designs are not painted on, but written (inscribed) with beeswax. Join our DEAR friend Irene Glassman to learn about the symbolic intricate designs, the rich history and see her demonstrate the technique that has been passed on from generation to generation. (We will be collecting items to send to our Ukrainian friends.) Held at Penfield Community Center.
