All hikes are free, but pre-registration is required. To register, visit our HIKE REGISTRATION page.

January 22     |     Ellison Park     |     10:00 am - 12:00 pm
1879 Blossom Rd.
Dust off your cross country skis or snowshoes and join us for an exhilarating trip through this very scenic park. If there isn't any snow, a hike will take place. We will follow the predominately flat portions of Ellison Park of the north side of Blossom Road. Meet at Blossom Road entrance (north side of the road). Look for the hike signs. Please bring your own cross country ski equipment or snowshoes.

As part of Penfield Recreation's Family Snow Night Out event. Bring your snowshoes if there is snow, as well as a headlamp or flashlight.

Join us for an environmental presentation (TBA) on western NY habitat. Meet many other trails programmers and learn about their offerings in the greater Rochester region. This event will be held at Penfield Town Hall auditorium.

1 Linear Park Dr. Celebrate Daniel Penfield's selection of "The Hollow" as the best mill site in all 97,000 square miles of the Genesee lands in 1795. Meet at kiosk on the north side of the bridge. Look for the hike signs.

April 30     |     Sherwood Fields Park     |     10:00 am
2514 Penfield Rd. Bring your pup(s) and enjoy a walk through a lovely park! You will learn about the park, but also get tips on hiking with your dog and some of the dog-related ordinances in Penfield. All dogs must be leashed.

May 14     |     Harris Whalen Park     |     9:00 - 11:00 am
2126 Penfield Rd. Hike through the woods to discover exciting spring flowers. Also learn about park history and geology. Meet at the upper pavilion. Look for the hike signs. 

June 11     |     Penfield Four Mile Creek Park     |     9:00 - 11:00 am
1451 Fairport Nine Mile Point Rd. Get a guided tour of Penfield's newest park! This park contains woods and wetlands reclaimed from pioneer farmland. Meet at the parking lot. Look for the hike signs!

July 9     |     Abraham Lincoln Park     |     9:00 - 11:00 am
1559 Empire Blvd. Explore the ups and downs of this county park from wooded uplands to the bay shore trail connections. Meet at the playground parking lot off Empire Blvd. Look for the hike signs.

August 13     |     Ellison Park     |     9:00 - 11:00 am
1008 Penfield Rd.
Discover the off-beat pathways that reveal the natural vistas carved by 10,000 years of Irondequoit Creek flow. Meet at park south entrance at 1008 Penfield Road. Look for the hike signs.

September 10     |     Penfield History Hike     |     9:00 - 11:00 am
1 Linear Park Dr. Hike through scenic Channing H. Philbrick Park on Irondequoit Creek and learn how it was important to Penfield's history. Meet at the upper parking lot. Look for the hike signs.

October 8     |     Shadow Pines Property     |     10:00 am - 12:00 pm
600 Whalen Rd. Meet at the parking lot. Look for the hike signs. 

November 12     |     Sherwood Fields Park     |     10:00 am - 12:00 pm
2514 Penfield Rd. Explore two 40-acre farm fields gone fallow--some now open meadow, some forest, split by Commission Ditch. Primary trails are accessible. Meet at parking lot. Look for the hike signs.

December 10     |     1,000 Acre Swamp     |     10:00 am - 12:00 pm
1585 Jackson Rd. This hike will tour the paths and boardwalks of the Nature Conservancy's Thousand Acre Swamp. A variety of habitats  including woods, meadows, and a pond will be covered. The guide will emphasize winter nature lore such as identifying trees in their winter dress, looking for tracks (if there is snow), and other signs of animals. Meet at the rear of the Penfield Ambulance building. Look for the hike signs.
