Note from Penfield DPW: Summer improvement projects underway in Penfield

Summer is here and that means it’s time for the Penfield Department of Public Works to get out and tackle projects throughout Penfield. Our goal is to make sure we maintain and improve infrastructure in the Town of Penfield.

This year, the work schedule includes ongoing pothole patching, street sweeping, drainage maintenance/improvement projects, and roadway improvements. To help keep you informed, I have outlined some projects that will be ongoing in the coming weeks:
  • Replacement of broken sidewalks on Penbrooke Drive and in the Jewelberry Drive neighborhood starting in mid-June.
  • Replacement of broken sidewalks and paving the island on Taramina Court starting in the next few weeks.
  • On Beacon Hills, we will be replacing broken concrete gutters in preparation for a neighborhood paving project. Milling is tentatively scheduled to start the week of July 12, followed by paving the week of July 24
  • Aging storm sewer cross-over pipes (between catch basins on either side of the road) on Huntington Brook and Huntington Meadow will be replaced in June. Work started on Huntington Brook is underway, and once completed, work will begin on Huntington Meadow, expected to start the week of June 26. Due to the scope of work, a temporary road closure (local traffic only) will be set up during the daytime hours. This project is being completed in advance of a pavement improvement project in 2024.
With work taking place on roadways throughout the area, please be mindful of work crews, do not speed, and always obey all work zone signage. We really appreciate the help of the community with this, and it makes our job safer and easier.

I also want to remind the community that we are holding brush drop-off for residents once per month through October. Drop-off will take place from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the following days:
  • Saturday, July 15
  • Saturday, August 19
  • Saturday, September 30
  • Saturday, October 21
On Friday, September 29, and Saturday, September 30 we will be hosting our annual fall drop-off and shredding event (Saturday only). We will be putting out details on this as we get closer to that time.

If you have any questions about projects, please give us a call at (585) 340-8710. For the latest information, you can also follow the DPW Projects of Community Interest page on our website.
