The Town of Penfield Department of Public Works will be re-grading a portion of the Whalen Road shoulder and the right-of-way on the western side of Whalen Road, north of the Pioneer Cemetery, along the northern portion of the Shadow Pines property. Work is expected to begin the week of December 4 and take a few weeks to complete.

As part of the project, material will be added to the grass area along the western side of Whalen Road to help reduce the slope of the shoulder and improve the rough terrain. This work will create a safer roadway and assist the Town in maintaining the area.

Should you have questions, please contact Penfield DPW at (585) 340-8710.

Beginning Friday, August 4, work on sanitary sewer infrastructure will occur in Hipp Brook Preserve. Crews led by Spoleta Construction will be repairing and cleaning the sewer system as part of a private development project.

The Town of Penfield has worked closely with the Genesee Land Trust, which owns the property, and the contractors to minimize impacts. Wetland mats will be placed on the ground to access the sewer system and reduce impacts on the wetland environment.

Following completion of the work, the project will be inspected by the Town of Penfield Sewer Department. Once the work has been approved, restoration of impacted areas within Hipp Brook Preserve will occur.

Should you have questions or concerns, please contact the Town of Penfield Engineering Department at (585) 340-8681 or engineer@penfield.org.

DPW crews are continuing to work on several projects this summer. While many jobs have been completed already, the crews will be busy over the next few months working on various items including ongoing pothole patching, street sweeping, drainage maintenance/improvement projects, and roadway improvements.

Over the next few weeks, a crew will be replacing sections of broken concrete sidewalks and paving the island on Taramina Court.

Another crew will be replacing broken concrete gutters on Beacon Hills in preparation for a neighborhood paving project. Milling is tentatively scheduled to start the week of July 12, followed by paving the week of July 24.

A crew will be replacing all of the deteriorated storm sewer cross-over pipes (between catch basins on either side of the road) on Huntington Brook and Huntington Meadow. The work is anticipated to start on Huntington Brook on June 14th. Once completed, work will begin on Huntington Meadow, expected to start the week of June 26. Due to the scope of work, a temporary road closure (local traffic only) will be set up during the daytime hours. This project is being completed in advance of a pavement improvement project in 2024.

Additionally, Hynes Concrete will be replacing broken concrete sidewalks on Penbrooke Drive and in the Jewelberry Drive neighborhood, starting the week on June 12.

Please be mindful of the hard work DPW crews will be performing this summer, obey all work zone signage, and give the crews room to work safely.

Now that winter seems to be behind us, DPW crews will be working on several projects over the next few weeks. Some of the Highway Department projects include patching potholes on various town-roads throughout the Town, sweeping debris from roadways and gutters throughout the Town, replacing catch basins and storm sewer crossover pipes, raising manhole frames and covers, and final preparation on Town roads planned to be chip sealed in mid-May. The Parks Department will also be busy throughout the various parks with the nicer weather and start to many athletic team seasons. While many of the tee boxes for the disc golf course have been installed, the remaining boxes will be installed over the next month. The amphitheater will also be installed and set up in the coming weeks, ahead of Memorial Day and the Town’s summer concert series.

Locations of catch basins and/or crossover pipe that will be replaced over the next three weeks include: Avonmore Way, Burning Tree Lane, Canyon Trail, Heather Drive, Henderson Drive (at Baird Road), Hillrise Drive, and Winterset Drive.

Locations of manhole frames and cover that will be raised and adjusted over the next three weeks include: Hillary Lane, and Hillrise Drive, Ludlow Way, and Willowhurst Drive.

Tentatively, roads scheduled for chip sealing / “oil & stone” are planned for the week of May 15th. All circles and cul-de-sacs on the scheduled roads will receive a micropave treatment and are anticipated to be completed the first week of May. Letters with additional detail will be sent out to residents on all roads impacted by this annual road maintenance project.
