Town of Penfield Memorial Day Ceremony of Remembrance set for May 27
The Town of Penfield will host its Memorial Day Ceremony of Remembrance on Monday, May 27 at Penfield Amphitheater in Veterans Memorial Park (3100 Atlantic Ave) at 10:30 a.m.

The annual event will honor fallen veterans and servicemembers, and includes remarks by guest speaker, retired United States Navy Captain Tim Hardy, a 30-year Penfield resident.

Captain Hardy retired as a Navy Surface Warfare Officer in 2013 with 30 years of service in both active and reserve units. He held command on several occasions, including forces in Europe and South America. While on active duty he served on two ships; the USS Nashville, an amphibious assault ship, where he served as a deck officer and as a combat information officer; and the USS Exploit, an ocean-going minesweeper, where he was the chief engineer before being meritoriously promoted to Executive Officer.

The ceremony will also feature the reading of essays by middle school students and Penfield’s traditional Presentation of Roses. During this time, community members remember fallen military personnel with a rose placed on the Veterans’ Memorial monument stone. Those interested in participating in this presentation should call (585) 340-8651.

“This annual event is incredibly important to our community and provides the opportunity to remember those who have bravely served our country,” said Town Supervisor Jeff Leenhouts. “Please join us as we remember our fallen heroes.”
