It is the policy of the Town of Penfield to select applicants applying for positions in the town on the basis of qualifications for the job in question. Penfield residents will be given preference for all positions unless special expertise or skill is required. Where a Civil Service list exists for a competitive position, candidates on the list will be canvassed. 

As a public employer, the Town of Penfield is covered by the New York Civil Service Law, which is intended to ensure that positions in government are filled by qualified applicants. Under the Civil Service Law, the Civil Service Commission of Monroe County handles the administration of regulations concerning the "classified" service, which includes: competitive class; non-competitive class; labor class; and exempt employees. The commission does not have jurisdiction over the "unclassified" service, which includes only elected and certain appointed officials.

Rate of Pay:  $19.00 p/hr.
Hours:  Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
 
The Town of Penfield is seeking a qualified Laborer for employment within the Town's Parks Department.
Qualified candidates must possess: Good knowledge of the use of hand tools relating to grounds maintenance work; working knowledge of annual and perennial flowers and plants including tree and shrub identification; working knowledge of ground maintenance activities; working knowledge of specific hazards and safety precautions; ability to do heavy manual labor, including heavy lifting; good verbal and written communication skills; ability to follow written and verbal instructions; ability to work under direct supervision; ability to establish good working relationships with others; ability to successfully work in a team environment; ability to work under all weather conditions including excessive heat and cold; manual dexterity; endurance; dependability; honesty; health and physical condition commensurate with the demand of the position.
Equipment Experience: Candidates must have experience with grounds maintenance equipment, Z-turn mowers, small tractors, over-seeders and walk-behind mowers; hand-held grounds maintenance equipment, string trimmers, chainsaws, gas blowers and hedge trimmers.
Drivers License: A valid, clean Class D NYS Driver License is required. Class B preferred but not immediately required. Must be able to operated trucks with attached equipment trailers.
