Shadow Pines update…the Town and the Seller continue good faith negotiations for a Purchase and Sales Agreement acceptable to both parties. In anticipation of an agreement, the property survey authorized by the Town Board began last week with the review of deeds and records on file at the County Clerk’s Office. The field instrument survey began on Friday, January 12. We anticipate this work will be completed and official maps prepared over the next several weeks. Additionally, the Phase II environmental site investigation for asbestos/lead paint assessment and soil sampling will begin this week of January 15.
Last week I had the opportunity to join the staff and residents of Atria Senior Living to help kick-off StoryWise, a game that captures, shares, and keeps stories forever. There are cards and an app that feature topics that can be customized to the storyteller, audio and video interviewing tools, and ways to share stories with family and friends. Each of us has a big life story made up of smaller, bite-size stories. Atria StoryWise ™ is a thoughtfully curated collection of topics and cues designed to spark memories, tap into experiences, and create a wiser and more connected world…one story at a time!
Together, we spent more than hour sharing, learning, laughing—and of course, there was a bit of crying. Questions on cards began with “tell us about” followed by themes like “one of your favorite photos,” “your first time on a plane,” “a time you put someone else’s interests first,” and “your first love.” My card asked me to “share a story about a time you were brave.” This is a wonderful game to play with parents, and especially grandparents, to capture family history. If you have an interest, you can download it for free from the App Store, then choose your storyteller and press “record” and let the stories unfold.
I recently had the honor of attending the Mary Cariola Children’s Center evening of “Celebration” as they ready for the opening of their new residence and the successful conclusion of their capital campaign. Their current home, located on Browncroft Blvd., had an awkward layout, insufficient square footage, and did not have all of the required equipment and lifts. The new community residence at 1146 State Road will provide state of the art equipment, programming, and more quality of life features for residents. On behalf of the entire community of Penfield, we are delighted that Mary Cariola Children’s Center will remain part of Penfield. Thank you for everything you do!
The AARP Foundation Tax Aide Program will once again be offering free income tax preparation on Wednesdays at the Penfield Community Center by appointment only, beginning January 31, 2018. Until next week, enjoy the fact the days are getting longer and we are getting closer to spring. However, Mother Nature is still challenging us with the snow and cold. Please drive according to conditions and remember to watch out for our youngest residents waiting for school buses, they may not be easily seen behind snow banks!
