Mailing Name and Address Change Form
To change the name(s) that appears on property mailings from the Town of Penfield, complete the “Mailing Name and Address Change Form.” Provide a copy of any Marriage, Divorce, or Death Certificate where appropriate.
This request does not apply to a change of ownership; a deed is necessary for that.
Please consult a legal advisor to change actual ownership.
The Assessor’s Office records ownership change after receiving recorded deeds from the Monroe County Clerk’s Office. Generally up to two (2) months after the County recording.
Tax maps show property boundary lines based on deed descriptions. Tax maps do not include any structures as references for site boundary lines. The Assessor’s Office can provide tax maps.
Survey maps show property boundary lines typically referenced to structures to assist with onsite determination of boundary lines. Survey maps usually become part of sales and mortgage closing documents; you or your legal advisor may be in possession of your property survey map. The Assessor’s Office cannot provide survey maps.
Current and accurate records ensure fair assessments. Assessment staff regularly inspect properties to update data, sketches, and property descriptions. Staff wear Town photo identification when performing inspections, and they will leave a door hanger notice following property inspection visits. Please contact the Assessor’s Office if you would like to know more about this process.
If you would like to schedule an assessment inspection to update a property description please contact Assessor’s Office. Inspections take place between 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM on non-holiday weekdays.

Assessments are based on Market Value – determined from valid openly marketed sales activity. The Tentative Assessment Roll occurs on May 1 every year.
Informal Reviews: Contact the Assessor’s Office if significant sales activity or condition/description issues may impact the market value. When workflow allows, the process would include an onsite interior inspection. If available, please provide recent listing information, a closing statement, and or an appraisal.
The Board of Assessment Review is the formal process for assessment reviews (Use the link for information on that one-time-a-year process. Includes the application submission deadline and a Valid Sales List).
