The free event will feature a variety of activities to help inform the Penfield community about the historic preservation of local buildings, including information about historic homes within Penfield.
During the event, three guest speakers will discuss the importance of preservation, prioritizing and regularly maintaining historic homes/properties, and historic landscape architecture. Additional activities include a historical photo matching game, architectural bingo, and architectural coloring pages. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided for attendees.
You are invited to attend this free, family-friendly event.
To attend, RSVP to Shannon Barg at barg@penfield.org or (585)-340-8639.
Historic Knowledge Games
Test your observation skills!
Contents: 4 player cards (1, 2, 3, 4)
Each card contains 24 image boxes, organized in a 5x5 grid, with words describing the images of the architectural features.
Supplies: Pen, pencil, or highlighter to mark the boxes after you find them. Clipboard to support your printed player card during the adventure.
Rules: Outdoor BINGO
1. Gather up some friends and family to play with you.
2. Print a copy of the bingo cards (one for each player).
3. Each player should have a different card (numbered 1-4 on the top).
4. Each player should also have a writing utensil (a highlighter is easiest) and a surface to right on (such as a clipboard).
5. You and the other players visit a historic district or a neighborhood of older houses in your community.
6. Walk through the neighborhood and look at the buildings. Try to find the architectural features found on your bingo card. When you find one, mark off the box with your writing utensil.
7. The first person to find five features in a row (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) and calls out “BINGO!” wins the game. The center block marked FREE
counts as one block.
8. The winning prize, if any, is chosen in advance of the game by the competing
players.
Online BINGO
1. All the same rules apply as “outdoor bingo” for all rules, except you will be playing virtually online. Either alone or with others.
2. Set a timer of a pre-determined allotted time for searching.
3. Using Google Earth, go on a virtual “walking” tour of a historic district or historic area in your community by typing in the addresses of the area houses.
4. Pick out buildings to zoom in on and attempt to identify the architectural features found on your bingo card. When you find one, mark off the box with your writing utensil.
5. Winning rules follow the same as above listed in #7 and #8 in the instructions.
