Household Hazardous Waste
The next Household Hazardous Wast (HHW) collection will be in Webster on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 7:45 AM to Noon.
The Monroe County Department of Environmental Services, the Towns of Penfield and Webster, and the Village of Webster join forces to hold an annual appointment-only Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection that alternates between the Webster DPW, 1005 Picture Parkway, Webster, NY 14580 and Penfield DPW, 1607 Jackson Road.
Appointments are required at all HHW collections to ensure safety and reduce waiting times. To schedule an appointment, go online to the Monroe County Website. Webster residents should call 872-1443, and Penfield residents can call 340-8710, Monday – Friday: 7 am – 3:30 pm. Household Hazardous Waste collection is open to all Monroe County residents. For immediate needs, Monroe County offers other collections throughout the year at the Monroe County Ecopark. For more information or for business waste disposal options, go to www.monroecounty.gov/ecopark
Most HHW (paint, flammable, and other chemicals from home use) is safe when used and stored properly. When they become unwanted and are disposed of improperly, these household wastes can become environmental hazards.

Leaf Disposal Information
The Town of Penfield does not provide leaf pick-up due to the cost of the service, including equipment, labor, and landfilling. Residents are encouraged to mulch and/or compost leaves when possible. If you have a volume of leaves that prohibits mulching, there are many landscapers in and around the Penfield area that provide pick-up service at a cost that is much lower than what the Town could achieve.
To identify landscape contractors that provide leaf pick-up services in Penfield, use your favorite Internet search engine or business phone directory. The Town of Penfield does not endorse any particular individual or contractor and encourages residents to check references, shop for the best price, and understand the services to be rendered for the cost of the service.
IMPORTANT: Contractors offer a range of services from leaf raking and removal to curbside leaf pick-up. Please do not place leaves in gutters or catch basins so water may flow freely into stormwater drains. Blocked storm drains may cause localized neighborhood flooding
Pharmaceuticals and Sharps
Residents are encouraged not to flush pharmaceuticals down the toilet nor throw them in the trash. Studies have shown that chemicals from the medication seep into the water supply and cause long-term public health consequences.
The following locations as designated collection points:
- Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Substations
- Police Departments in Fairport, East Rochester, Greece, Brighton, Ogden, Brockport, Webster, Irondequoit, and Gates
- Monroe County Ecopark
Waste from pharmacies, veterinary offices, and pharmaceutical businesses are not accepted at any of these waste drop-offs. All medications will be destroyed by an incineration process that is overseen by law enforcement. No appointments are needed.
