Recently, we implemented several changes that will benefit our community, some of which you might have already noticed.
Penfield Town Hall should be a welcoming and efficient place to conduct business. If you have been to Town Hall recently, you may have noticed you no longer need to use the kiosk in the lobby to sign in. The kiosk was often a point of frustration for visitors, and we have removed it.
Additionally, starting Monday, May 1, Town Hall will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The earlier opening time will assist those doing business at Town Hall, particularly people working with our building, planning, and engineering departments.
Town Board meetings
Town Board meetings will be held on the first Wednesday (legislative meeting) and third Wednesday (work session) of each month. The 6:30 p.m. start time remains unchanged.
If Town business requires, we will hold special meetings for time-sensitive Town items and actions. Should this occur, the meeting will be announced as any special Town Board meeting has been in the past.
With an increasing number of boards and committees, we chose to condense our Town Board meeting schedule to ensure we are using our time, and that of staff and the community, most effectively. In 2023 alone, we have added the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and the Clark Road Barn Advisory Committee. The reduction in the Town Board schedule will provide the Town Board, staff, and residents with more opportunities for participation with boards and committees.
Public participation is a valuable part of meetings. We receive input that helps guide our work, and it’s important this be received before action items on the agenda are discussed. Public participation will remain at all legislative meetings before the start of legislative action.
Feedback from residents is not limited to public participation at meetings, we want continuous dialogue. We encourage residents to connect with us via email or phone with questions or concerns.
Speaking of open dialogue, our efforts to better engage with the community continue. This includes communications tools such as a monthly e-newsletter and the newly created Penfield Department of Public Works projects page on our website.
Right now, the Town of Penfield offers more ways to engage and keep informed than ever.
