YA Lit Book Reviewers Wanted! Earn volunteer service credit!
For Grades 6-12

PPL is seeking volunteers who want to write book reviews for our PPL YA Lit Reviews blog (pplyalitreviews.blogspot.com). If you like to read YA literature and can commit to writing at least four book reviews in 2021, please email YA Librarian Lyla Grills for more details at Lyla.Grills@libraryweb.org.


Tails & Tales Teen Summer Reading
Tails & Tales: 2021 Teen Summer Reading & Learning Program
Monday, June 28-Friday, August 6
For tweens & teens entering grades 6-12
No registration required

Pick up a Bingo Board at the Information Desk. Complete reading and activity challenges and when you get a “Bingo” simply return it to the library and we will enter your name into a weekly prize raffle! Prizes are donated by many generous local businesses. Once you complete a Bingo Board, you can pick up a new one (up to six per participant for the duration of the game).


Wednesday Crafternoons on Zoom
Wednesdays, June 30-August 4
For tweens & teens entering grades 6-12
Registration opens two weeks prior to each event & space is limited

Pick up your supply kit at the library for each week’s program starting on the Monday before. Zoom links will be sent out the morning of each event. Can’t make the Zoom? You can follow instructions included in the supply kit on your own time.

Tails & Tales: Community Service Cat-Bed-Making for Lollypop Farm

Pick up supply kit starting 6/24 at noon. We’ll cut and tie fleece beds to donate to kitties waiting for their fur-ever homes! While we craft, let’s share Tales about our Tailed friends! We are asking that participants bring their completed cat beds to the library by July 14 so we can deliver them to Lollypop Farm. Led by PPL Teen Dept. staff.

Tails & Tales: Book Hedgehogs

Tails & Tales: Terrariums

Pick up supply kit starting 7/26 at noon. Terrariums are miniature worlds that do indeed tell a tale…and there will even be some “tails” to include in your scenes! Kathleen Rullo, owner of Jardin Terrariums, leads this fun and informative event.

Tails & Tails: Faux Stained Glass Craft
Wednesday, August 4, 3:00-4:00 PM

Pick up supply kit starting 8/2 at noon. Together we will draw outlines on framed glass with colored glue. “Tails and Tales” stencils will be included for inspiration…or create with your own theme. This craft will then need to dry for at least a day before you paint in your shapes. Led by PPL Teen Dept. staff.


Tails & Tales Summer Writing Club (via Zoom)

Delve into the minds of your favorite animals and go on wild adventures in a different habitat every week. Open to everyone in grades 7-10; no writing experience needed. Explore creative writing in a fun, easygoing environment. Meet on Zoom every week for writing games, prompts, and advice. Access to Google Docs required. Led by PPL Program Aide Dani.


Practice College Entrance Exams on Zoom, presented by Chariot Learning
For Grades 9-12

Take official, full-length SAT and ACT tests under proctored conditions in the comfort of your own home or other quiet location and find out your score as soon as you are done!

Registrants will attend via Zoom and take a full official practice SAT/ACT under the guidance of an expert proctor, who will then help everyone score their tests (multiple-choice portions only). The test document will be emailed to registrants the day before the exam. Have the following ready at the start of the test:
A printed copy of the provided test PDF and multiple-choice answer grid
Pencils
Calculator
Snacks & water

Please use a parent’s email rather than a student email address to sign up for this exam. This email address will be shared with Chariot Learning and used to set up the Zoom invitation and mail the test document.
