Tree planting event set for April 23 at Rothfuss Park, public invited

The Town of Penfield will host a tree planting event on Saturday, April 23 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Rothfuss Park (1648 Five Mile Line Rd). Residents and community groups are welcome to attend the event which will include a free tree sapling giveaway.

The event, which is being held to coincide with Earth Day and Arbor Day, will celebrate sustainability, and promote eco-conscious practices.

Highlighting the event will be the planting of red maple and eastern white pine trees. The trees will measure roughly six feet in height at planting and will enhance natural shading on the park’s walking trail in the coming years. The trees are being purchased with funds from a New York State Urban Forestry Council grant recently awarded to the Town.

Additionally, smaller tree saplings purchased by the Town of Penfield Conversation Board will be distributed to event attendees. The tree saplings, which will include the official Town tree the red maple, will be available for residents to plant at Rothfuss Park or take home for planting.
