Supervisor's Note: February 2022

“How can we do better?” It’s one of five essential questions developed by James Ryan which I touched on in my note last month. Right now, for the Town of Penfield, this question is particularly relevant as we seek to enhance our communications and outreach efforts.

Currently, we have several ways you can engage in our Town government including those highlighted below. Looking ahead, we hope to further grow these resources and programs.

1. Town Website: You can keep up to date with important Town news and announcements by bookmarking our website, www.penfield.org. Also on our homepage is a green banner with several tabs. Under the tab titled “More,” you can click on Town Projects of Community Interest. Large-scale or Town-wide projects are listed here to help you stay informed.

2. Social Media: We are looking to increase our presence on social media, and hopefully you have already noticed an uptick in the frequency of our posts. If you are on social media, follow us on Facebook and Twitter. I have also started my own Facebook page, Penfield Town Supervisor Marie Cinti.

3. Meetings:
Town Board: Meetings are held regularly, and public comment times are available. Town Board meetings are held weekly on Wednesdays beginning at 7 p.m. in the Penfield Town Hall auditorium.  If you are unable to attend in person, we stream meetings live.
Boards and Committees: Very often, Town projects are discussed at the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings which are held a minimum once per month. If you are unable to attend in person, we do stream these meetings live as well.
To watch meetings, please use Penfield Television's Government Access Network which includes Spectrum Cable Channel 1303, ROKU/Apple TV/Amazon Fire in the "PenfieldTV" app, as well as online via Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and www.penfieldTV.org. For specific meeting dates, times, and public comment procedures for any of our committee and board meetings, please visit the Town website.

While COVID has certainly limited the frequency of in-person interactions, I was fortunate to meet with some of our residents at a recent event DEAR meeting (Daytime Education at Recreation) at Penfield Community Center. I appreciate these types of in-person opportunities, and feel such conversations are vital to the work we are doing each day in moving Penfield forward.

In the coming months, I hope to meet with many more of you.

Now back to the original question, “How can we do better?”

I ask you to consider how you would like to receive information from the Town. Is there a method of communication we are missing or should consider adding? Please let us know via email at supervisor@penfield.org, through our website, or by calling us at 340-8630.

Stay warm,

Marie Cinti, Penfield Town Supervisor
