Community Campaign Strives Towards CEC Designation

The Town’s Energy and Environmental Advisory Committee is exploring the designation of Penfield as a NYSERDA Clean Energy Community (CEC) provided it is in the best interest of the Penfield community.

To achieve CEC status, the Town needs to complete a number of specific “high impact actions” to earn necessary points that ultimately lead to NYSERDA certification. Becoming a CEC can bring benefits to Penfield, including funding for municipal sustainability projects, resident education, and a more sustainable community.

One such “high impact action” is the presentation of educational “Community Campaigns” to residents to showcase new and innovative energy technologies that generate value and savings for homeowners while advancing New York’s clean energy goals.

In support of the Town’s efforts, members of Color Penfield Green—an organization of residents dedicated to Earth-friendly practices—have volunteered to present two Community Campaigns through Penfield Recreation with courses entitled “Electric Vehicles” and “Clean Heating and Cooling and Energy Efficiency.” Both courses will present expert insights into current energy-efficient technologies and provide connections to local resources. Penfield residents who wish to pursue more sustainable practices are encouraged to register for both programs.

Programs are free and open to the public. Participants must register to attend and may do so online using the following links:
