National Work Zone Awareness Week is April 26

An Update from Supervisor LaFountain:

This is National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 26-30), highlighting the deadly dangers of inattention at highway work areas. Everyone plays a role in work zone safety. Every time we head out in our vehicles we have a responsibility to give our full attention to driving and observing our surroundings. In “construction season” this includes awareness of construction projects along our usual routes.

Multiple roadway projects are underway in Penfield. The most notable is the NYSDOT intersection improvement at Atlantic Ave. and Five Mile Line Rd. that will continue into the late fall. Our Penfield DPW is working throughout the town filling potholes, repairing catch basins, and replacing gutters. Street sweepers are out cleaning up winter debris. Crews are also installing a new parking lot in Greenwood Park. More projects will unfold in the summer months. All of these projects may require drivers to slow down or stop to accommodate ongoing work. Please do your part to plan ahead, give yourself extra time for unexpected delays, and plan alternate routes when possible.

To stay up to date on what’s happening in town please follow projects of community interest at www.penfield.org.

Help bring attention to the risks faced in work zones by wearing orange on Wednesday, April 28 to provide a visible reminder and to show your support for families who have lost loved ones in work zone crashes.

Be safe and be well!
