Roads for 2022 have been completed
Each year, the Town of Penfield surface treats approximately 10 percent of 150 miles of town-owned roads with an application of “oil and stone” to preserve the asphalt surface and extend the life of town roads.
The resurfacing project is scheduled to begin on or about May 16, weather permitting. The overall project schedule will vary depending on weather conditions and equipment availability.
The town does not apply oil and stone as an alternative to paving; instead, the surface treatment is preventative maintenance to prolong the life of roadways, similar to the practice of residential driveway sealing. Oil is applied to seal the pavement surface and fill any small surface cracks that allow water to get into the pavement and cause premature failure, shortening the life of the road. Crushed stone adds friction as a “wear surface” to minimize slippery roads and improve safety. Cul-de-sacs receive a micro-pave treatment in place of oil and stone.
The resurfacing process moves along quickly, and access to the roads will be disrupted for only 10 to 15 minutes; roads can be driven on immediately at a reduced speed of 10 to 15 mph. DPW street sweepers will clean up loose stones within a few weeks of application.
The following town roads are scheduled for surface treatment:
City View Drive
Holley Ridge Circle
Live Oak Court
Mt. Eagle Drive
New Wickham Drive
Old Barn Circle
Peach Tree Road
Plum Tree Drive
Sanders Farm Drive
Willow Pond Way
Cul-de-sac associated with the above street list is scheduled for micro-paving the first week of May. The schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions or any urgent community need.
Suit Kote will perform the paving project for the Town of Penfield.
You may experience some minor inconveniences during the work period. The cul-de-sac and portion of the road leading up to it will be closed and inaccessible for up to 24 hours. All affected residents may need to park their vehicles along the sides of the road outside the cul-de-sac. Emergency services and school districts have also been advised of the project.
Suit Kote will distribute their own door-hangers to notify residents the evening before work begins. For more information or to ask specific questions about your street, please get in touch with the Town DPW office at 340-8710.
