The proposed project is a culmination of the Town Board receiving a petition from the public to add an additional softball field and upgrade the two existing fields with fencing. Due to space limitations, the existing asphalt walking path will need to be relocated. This also resulted in providing an expansion to the current parking lot of additional +/-49 parking spaces. The proposal also includes the construction of a new +/- 800 s.f. restroom facility which will require utilities to be extended, and the installation of a 5’ wide concrete sidewalk along Columbus Crossing that connects Jackson Road to the Town of Penfield Town hall parking lot.

On Monday, November 6 the Town of Penfield held a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the construction of a new restroom facility at Veterans Memorial Park.
The facility, which includes two single bathrooms, is located adjacent to the softball field complex in the southwest corner of the park. The project has been funded in part by a generous grant from Senator Samra Brouk. The Town of Penfield covered the remainder of the cost.
“Our softball complex is heavily used by our community, and this an important project that adds restrooms close to the fields,” said Town Supervisor Debbie Drawe. “I want to thank Senator Brouk for her funding assistance to help bring this project to fruition.”

Work to begin on new bathroom facilities at Veterans Park
In the coming weeks, visitors to Veterans Park will notice construction activity as work begins on a new permanent bathroom facility to better serve park visitors.
The facility, which will include two single bathrooms, will be located adjacent to the softball field complex in the southwest corner of the park. Work is expected to last through the summer. Visitors to the park are asked to avoid the construction area and adhere to any posted signage.
Construction of the new facility is being funded in part by a generous grant from Senator Samura Brouk. The Town of Penfield is covering the remainder of the cost.

January – March 2023
The Town Board was presented with a proposal for a new bathroom facility at the softball fields along Columbus Crossing, designed by Town staff and MRB Group. On February 9, advertisements for construction bids were published and Loyal 9 Development was later awarded the project on March 29. State Senator Samra Brouk will be providing the Town with grant funding for the new construction, with the remaining funds coming from the Town's Recreation Trust Fund. Construction is scheduled to begin in the coming months.
June 2022
The parking area at Veterans Memorial Park has been expanded with the addition of roughly 40 parking spaces directly to the west of the Town Hall complex. These new spaces serve as overflow parking during events and were completed by the Town of Penfield Department of Public Works. The lot is surfaced with crushed stone and has entry and exit points from Columbus Crossing.
May 2022
Construction has been completed on the new sidewalks installed along Columbus Crossing, from Jackson Road to the Town Hall. This will provide a safe location for pedestrians to walk and get off the roadway. The new outfield fencing for the softball fields is currently underway and should be completed shortly. The town has awarded a contract to the MRB Group for the design of the new bathroom facility that is slated for this area. Future updates will be provided when these are complete, and the bid package is put together. The DPW will be working with the Engineering Department to expand the existing gravel parking lot on the south side of Columbus Crossing this summer. This expansion will provide much-needed parking as well as a second ingress/egress location.
