Laborer  

Department of Public Works - Parks

Non-Exempt/Full-Time

Grade:  14

Minimum Rate:  $20.41p/hr.

Standard Rate:  $22.46 p/hr. 

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics: Good knowledge of the use of hand tools; working knowledge of methods used to maintain and construct roads, sidewalks, catch basins, etc.; working knowledge of ground maintenance activities; working knowledge of building cleaning methods; working knowledge of specific hazards and safety precautions; ability to do heavy manual labor, including lifting; ability to follow instructions; ability to work under direct supervision; ability to establish good working relationships with others; ability to work under all weather conditions; manual dexterity; endurance; dependability; honesty; health and physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Qualified candidates shall possess:  good verbal and written communication skills, the ability to successfully work in a team environment, ability to understand and follow both written and verbal directions and the ability to work in inclement weather (excessive cold and heat).

Preferred Qualifications:  landscaping experience of at least one year, ability to differentiate species of plants, trees and shrubs and experience with the operation of grounds maintenance equipment.

A valid, clean class D NYS Driver License is required, class B preferred.

 Standard Rate:  $22.46 p/hr. 

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics: Good knowledge of the use of hand tools; working knowledge of methods used to maintain and construct sewer mains, laterals, catch basins, etc.; working knowledge of specific hazards and safety precautions; ability to perform manual labor including, but not limited to, shoveling, bending, kneeling, stooping, and climbing; ability to lift or move material and items of substantial weight; ability to establish good working relationships with others; ability to work under all weather conditions; manual dexterity; endurance; dependability; honesty; health and physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Qualified candidates shall possess: Good verbal and written communication skills, the ability to successfully work in a team environment, the ability to understand and follow both written and verbal directions, the ability to work in inclement weather (excessive cold and heat), and the ability to be on-call and respond outside of normal working hours.

Preferred experienceCleaning, flushing and televising storm and sanitary sewers; operating and maintaining pump stations, operation of hand and power tools.  Electrical knowledge with diagnostic skills a plus.

Valid NYS Driver License is required, Class B preferred.
