The Penfield Bicentennial Committee and the Penfield Arts Center announce an upcoming Penfield-themed art exhibit entitled, "Artistic Impressions of Penfield: A Bicentennial Celebration." The exhibit will run July 28-September 24, 2010 at the Penfield Arts Center's RepARTee Gallery, 2131 Five Mile Line Road in Penfield.
Artists are invited to submit up to three original works of fine art to this juried show. There is a fee of ten dollars per entry. Artists are not required to be Penfield residents, however show rules do require entries to depict a Penfield theme. Possible themes to inspire artists include Penfield Moments, Historic Places, Sacred Spaces, Hangouts, Fun in Penfield, and Penfield in Action. Awards will recognize excellence and best of theme categories as determined by the juror.
"Artistic Impressions of Penfield: A Bicentennial Celebration" will be juried by Peter Giopulos, professor emeritus from the College of Fine and Applied Arts, Rochester Institute of Technology and a Penfield resident. Mr. Giopulos taught art, ceramics, design and art education courses and has held various administrative positions during his career in education. He has been a set designer, painter, potter and currently is working in digital imagery. Mr. Giopulos currently serves on the board of the Penfield Symphony Orchestra.
"We are excited to present an all-Penfield exhibit to our community in celebration of the town's bicentennial," said Kristina Hutch-Matthews, Penfield Arts Center Director. "Penfield has a strong tradition of visual arts. We look forward to receiving entries for this show, and we're delighted to have Peter Giopulos as our distinguished juror."
Artists who wish to participate may download the prospectus (eligibility, fees, show rules and entry form) from the Penfield Arts Center website at www.penfieldartscenter.com or the Penfield Bicentennial website at www.penfield2010.org . Work will be judged in person, not from slides or digital files. The deadline for pre-registration is Friday, July 9. Drop-off of entries for judging is Friday, July 23 from 3:30 - 6:30 pm.
