Like many towns in New York State, we are receiving a number of inquiries from residents who wish to pay their 2018 Town/County taxes before year-end. If you are among them, here’s a quick review of what you need to know and do.
Monroe County 2018 Town/County tax bills will be online and printable on December 28, 2017.
The first day of collection for the 2018 Town and County taxes is Friday, December 29 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Penfield Tax Office in the Town Hall, 3100 Atlantic Ave.
Payments may be made in person, by mail, or online.
First, to print a bill:
- Go to the Monroe County website at: www.monroecounty.gov
- Click View/Pay Taxes online
- Click "I Agree" after reading "Real Property Portal Disclaimer" (if you wish to proceed)
- Enter address (avoid using street, lane, road, etc.)
- Click "Search"
- "Pay Property Taxes" (Upper right corner – green tab)
- Choose "Combined Town County Tax Bill" (Top Left)
- Print the PDF form
To Pay in person: December 29 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM; PLEASE EXPECT TO WAIT IN LINE
Go to the Penfield Tax Office, first floor, Town Hall, 3100 Atlantic Avenue.
Cash payments may only be paid at the Tax Receiver's Office.
Completed tax forms, with check payments can be paid at the Tax receiver’s office OR dropped off at any time in the after-hours box on the east side of the Town Hall.
To pay by mail:
Payments made by mail must have a U.S. Postmark of December 29 or 30 of 2017 and be sent to

A stamped receipt will be mailed to you. Any payments received prior to December 29, 2017 will be returned unprocessed.
To pay online:
Credit cards and E-checks can be used online on or after December 29, 2017 with an additional service fee.
Pay online with a Credit Card through the "Pay Property Taxes" portal (step 5) at monroecounty.gov/etc/rp

Here’s an update on Shadow Pines in case you have missed previous communications. A resident petition was submitted to the Town of Penfield on December 20, 2017 calling for a Public Referendum on the Town’s intended purchase of the Shadow Pines golf course property from Dolomite/Oldcastle. The minimum number of signatures required to hold a Public referendum was 685; the petition was filed with 1,133 signatures. The petition was submitted in response to the Town’s November 20, 2017 Permissive Referendum to finance the purchase of Shadow Pines.
Legal procedure requires the Penfield Town Board to hold a Public Referendum as called for in the petition no less than 60 days, and no more than 75 days, from the filing of the petition. Therefore, the projected date for a Public Referendum would be on or about February 27, provided a Purchase and Sales Agreement is accepted by both parties. There is a five day period following the filing of the petition during which time the petition is available for review in the Town Clerk’s office, which ended Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at 5:00 PM. As of writing this column, the Town and the seller have a Letter of Intent and continue negotiations towards a Purchase and Sales Agreement. As more information becomes available, updates will be posted online at www.penfield.org.
The 2018 organizational meeting of the Penfield Town Board will be held on Wednesday, January 3 at 7:00 PM in the auditorium of the Town Hall. This meeting adopts the rules of procedure for the year, establishes salary schedules, appoints boards and committees, and puts in place contracts necessary for annual operations.
Prior to the organizational meeting, and beginning at 6:00 PM in the auditorium, there will be a swearing-in ceremony for the elections held this past November. Those to be sworn-in include Town Council members, Paula Metzler and Andy Moore; Town Clerk, Amy Steklof; Town Justice, James Mulley; and myself as Town Supervisor. All residents are invited to attend one or both events. You may also tune-in to Penfield Television, PCTV.
