The Town of Penfield's Dayton's Corners Schoolhouse, located at the corner of Plank Road and Creek Street in Penfield, will host an open house and pie social Sunday, June 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The open house will include free pony rides, pie and lemonade for $2.00, and old-time fiddle music by Heartstrings.
Dayton's Corner School was erected in 1857. It is owned by the Town of Penfield and is the only rural schoolhouse in the area that has not been converted to another use. Today, the "little red brick building" serves as an integral part of the New York State fourth grade curriculum and is a field trip destination for hundreds of area students each year.
